Town of Okotoks
Boasting Rocky Mountain views and rolling hills, 85 kilometers of pathways, and vibrant cultural, recreational, and commercial offerings, the Town of Okotoks is a community pursuing sustainable development while striving to maintain its unique local identity. Cygnus was invited to design a city-wide wayfinding program that assists people in getting to key places by all modes of transportation, and establishes a distinct sense of place while maintaining connections to the Calgary Metropolitan Region.
Cygnus took inspiration from the natural environment to create the colour palette for the sign program. Beige, blue, and natural rock textured bases provide a cohesive approach to the sign family, which includes directional signage, maps, and identification signage for civic facilities, parks, and trails.
Through engagement workshops, we came to understand the Town as a place that values both innovation and tradition, and we sought to represent these values simultaneously through the signage program. The clean and modern results bring the Town into the current era while representing the values that Okotoks seeks to preserve.
